Defining the outbound GTM strategy for Parallel

Overview

Parallel is an AI-powered applicant tracking system headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. Founded by two senior product engineers, it had strong technology but no repeatable sales motion: demos came from founder-led LinkedIn activity and organic inbound.

We were engaged to put the outbound go-to-market strategy in place — the targeting, the messaging, and the motion design that would let Parallel's own team run outbound without building the thinking from scratch.

Running that strategy, Parallel booked 32 qualified demos and opened $0.5M in new-logo pipeline in the first five months, at a cost per demo 35% below target.

Services Provided

Problem

Pipeline was capped by founder attention and impossible to forecast. There had been no structured outbound effort across email and LinkedIn, no ICP tested against actual paying customers, and no view of which segments carried the most revenue. Selling into US recruiting teams, where buying committees fragment across HR, talent, and operations, the binding constraint was the missing target definition, not missing effort.

Solution

Three strategic decisions, made before any outreach began. Each was built to be handed over and operated.

ICP from evidence, not assumption. We ran a gap analysis between Parallel's stated ICP and the profile of its actual paying customers, sized the addressable segments, and identified which held the most revenue. The result was a US-centric ICP with defined personas and intent triggers — narrower than the original assumption, and testable.

Messaging built on pain, not features. We analyzed how recruiting teams describe their problems on review and social platforms, ran keyword research on current HR terminology, and matched the tone the founders had already established. Every claim mapped to a specific pain point.

A motion the team could run. We specified the sequence, the channel logic, and the instrumentation — a defined stack with AI-assisted research and enrichment feeding a CRM that attributes every result to a campaign and segment — then wrote it up as playbooks covering research, objection handling, and hand-off. The design point was learning: each cycle tells the team which segment and message to weight next, so the strategy refines against evidence rather than instinct.

Parallel outbound GTM strategy: three decisions and results

Impact

The strategy was validated in market once Parallel's team put it to work. Reply-to-meeting held at 7.5% across channels, well above typical cold outbound into US recruiting — a signal that the ICP and messaging were correctly targeted, not that the volume was high. Cost per scheduled demo stayed under $95, 35% below the target set at kickoff.

Parallel owns the strategy outright: a documented ICP, a messaging library, a specified stack, and the playbooks that operate it. Outbound became a second pipeline source run by the team, rather than a function dependent on founder attention.
